It’s Thursday back in the Berkshires bringing you back
What happened to full-service gas stations? some people may not even remember it, but those who do Ahhh what memories they bring back. You didn’t have to pump your own gas, but it wasn’t all a full service gas station, they cleaned your windows, checked your oil and also made sure you had water in your radiator.

The oil crisis of the 1970s marked the end of the full-service gas station. Oil companies figured customers wanted to pump their own gas in exchange for saving pennies. Soon attendants were no longer needed. Also, the process of getting gas from a full gas station took about 10-15 minutes, which people think is far too slow in today’s impatient and fast-paced world.
It’s really sad, I remember when I was little going to the full service station in the 70s. Interestingly, all stations in Oregon and New Jersey are considered full service because it’s illegal in both states for customers to pump their own gasoline.
Supposedly there is still a super full-service gas station in the United States, in Wilmette, Illinois. Here in the Berkshires, we have a gas station that always pumps your gas!
Do you remember full-service gas stations? What kind of gifts did you do with? I remember recovering a dino the dinosaur in the early 70s!
