Interior of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, a modern luxury space
The 10 Best Neighborhood Interiors 2021 are revealed in random, non-alphabetical order, one per day until October 15. This is the first profile of a winner.
In the Wards 10 Best Interiors competition, judges so often evaluate vehicle interiors that are exaggerated in their appearance – “blingy” if you will – with copious amounts of glossy surfaces and bright and / or rich colors.
Make no mistake, there is a place for these kinds of interiors in our competition, as you will see as more winners are revealed.
But many judges found the more modern take on luxury inside the Ford Mustang Mach-E (photo, left), a refreshing change, so much so that it is on the 2021 list of the 10 best interiors of neighborhoods.
Ford’s new battery-electric vehicle is technically not a luxury CUV.
But with its sleek ivory and black interior and minimal switchgear, the Mach-E’s interior is luxurious at first (and second and third) glance.
Our premium all-wheel drive cab at $ 56,200 (photo below) is filled with soft, fine-grained leatherette, covering the upper doors and dashboard. The faux leather is heavily decorated with monotone or contrast stitching for a cleaner look, although on the black center armrest / box cover ivory stitching runs along the edges.
Hard plastic trims are plentiful, but they’re matte instead of glossy and carry a technical grain compared to the thick leather-grain hard plastic trims ubiquitous in most vehicle interiors, including premium models.
Even the most conspicuous elements of the Mach-E cabin lean subtly. A black and white checkered fabric (fabric being a European trend that we have increasingly noticed appearing in American vehicles) wraps around parts of the IP and door trim.
A basket weave pattern is molded into the removable liners inside the cup holders, as well as on the cordless phone charger. And aluminum-look trim surrounds the volume and gearshift knobs.
Glossy piano black trims are applied minimally, appearing along the top edges of the center console.
Other trim pieces have a nice carbon fiber look.
Not only is the interior of the new Mach-E beautiful, it’s also functional.
The judges praised the switchgear here, including the large central control button at the bottom center of the touchscreen, as well as the easy-to-reach steering wheel-mounted buttons for ADAS technology.
The huge, 15.5 inch. The vertical high-resolution touchscreen (39cm) is the most eye-catching element inside the vehicle, playing a long animation with a shining Mustang logo upon entering the cabin. But it’s not just a wow feature; its large app tiles also make it easy to use – and virtually guarantee that your intended choice will be achieved.
A design and functional element, the central armrest does not catch on the box below. Rather, it floats a few inches above it, which means one can slide a hand inside to grab something without making the annoying and potentially distracting movement of unlocking the lid and lifting it up to grab something. access the items inside the box.
Technologically speaking, pairing smartphones is blazingly fast, and the built-in voice assistant understood pretty much all of our audio and navigation controls, even when we exited the script.
Our judges find the seats comfortable, both in the front and rear of the Mach-E. According to Judge Bob Gritzinger: âOne of the most surprising things about the Mach-E is that it has usable rear seats,â a nod to the fact that rear seat comfort has never been. a strong point of the Mustang coupe.
And, despite a lots of delicate shapes on door interiors and dashboard, fit and finish are very good, with no flaws found.
âI love the look. This is the interior of the most pointed BEV to date – modern without being too spartan â, summarizes the judge Dave Zoia of the cabin of the Mach-E.
Gritzinger agrees: “The fabric on the upper dash, combined with carbon fiber trim and white leatherette, gives a crisp look that’s both comfortable and current, while taking a step into the future.” . “
