Ford Implements Stop Sell Order on Mustang Mach-E Due to Seat Belt Problems
Customers waiting to pick up their Ford Mustang Mach-E are best advised to be patient as the veteran automaker has issued a stop-sale order for the all-electric crossover due to potential issues with the belts. safety rear of the vehicle. The recall covers 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E built between October 5 and November 18, 2021.
The stop sell order was announced in a letter obtained by the Detroit Free Press, which was also shared later online. The initiative was confirmed by Ford spokesman Said Deep, who explained that 2,304 Mach-E units were affected by the stop-sale order. Of this number, 741 have already been delivered to customers, and 1,563 are still in concession.
While Ford deserves notable credit for issuing a proactive safety recall for the Mach-E, the stop-sale order could end up costing customers a tax incentive of $ 7,500 for calendar year 2021. This is something Deep pointed out in a statement to Free press.
“We can understand the disappointment of customers if they were relying on the credit application (on their 2021 calendar year taxes). However, delivering quality vehicles remains a top priority, ”said Ford spokesperson. Deep also said buyers of Mach-E can still claim the tax credit despite the stop sale order, although the incentive will move to calendar year 2022 for some buyers.
According to Ford’s letter to its dealers, some of the Mach-E’s produced Oct. 5 through Nov. 18 may have a rear seat belt that could come off and improperly restrain an occupant in an accident. Considering the Mach-E is a crossover and would likely be used by families, the back seats would likely be where the kids sit. That being said, Deep noted that there are currently no injuries or accidents reported to date that are related to the issue.
Owners of affected Mustang Mach-E units who have already taken delivery of their vehicles can expect first-class courier from Ford. These messages would be sent after Ford provides repair instructions and parts ordering information to its dealers.
