Brock’s Bathurst Torana, Unrestored XY GT, and More

JShannon’s online auctions are among Australia’s most prestigious car auctions, with a range of killer muscles and cool quirks going under the hammer four times a year.

Although the 2022 Winter Timed Online Auction won’t open for bidding until August 2, we managed to get a very early look at the Melbourne facilities to check out what’s on offer, before the cars go officially photographed (and in some cases even cleaned). And boy, are there any pearls!

Keep in mind that given the early nature of this preview, some lots may change in detail or be removed from sale before the auction kicks off. And that’s exactly what we saw in Melbourne, there will be more to come from the freeway.

Headlining the show is the Brock/Chivas LJ GTR XU-1 Torana, which notoriously ran out of fuel at Bathurst in 1973, forcing Chivas to jump out and push the car to the pits on its own.

Despite the setback, Brock and Chivas reclaimed second place. Brock took the car to first place in ATCC’s Symmons Plains, Calder Park and Amaroo rounds, before being replaced by an LH Torana for the final two races of the year.

This car was restored by the Tate family, with Mick Webb servicing the screaming six-pot. This is apparently the first time the car will be offered for public sale, having spent 16 years with its current owner.
